Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on journalist and UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd director Subhash Singha Roy and his wife and former lawmaker Mamata Hena Lovely over graft allegations. The decision was handed down by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz, who approved the request made by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC filed the plea citing concerns that the couple is attempting to leave the country amid ongoing investigations. The anti-graft body has appointed an investigation officer to delve into the accusations of accumulating illegal wealth and money laundering against Subhash Singha Roy and Mamata Hena Lovely. The ACC argued that the travel ban was necessary to prevent the accused from evading the ongoing legal proceedings by fleeing the country.
