Dhaka: A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Major Gen (Retd) Sultanuzzaman Md Saleh Uddin, former managing director of Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited, and his wife, Jewela Nilufar, due to graft allegations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the orders following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). In addition to the travel restrictions, the court also instructed authorities to block the National Identity Cards (NIDs) of the couple.
The Anti-Corruption Commission, in its plea, stated that it is investigating corruption allegations against Sultanuzzaman and his wife. Evidence has been found indicating that they have amassed illegal wealth and retained it in their possession.
The commission expressed concerns that the couple might attempt to leave the country to avoid prosecution, potentially jeopardizing the ongoing investigation. “If they manage to escape the country, it would hamper the investigation. So, a travel ban should be imposed on them,” the ACC plea stated.
