Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his wife Hosne Ara Begum over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Deputy assistant director Zakir Hossain of the ACC filed the plea with the court.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Anti-Corruption Commission on February 3 filed three cases against the couple and their son, Md Rakibuzzaman. These cases were filed under section 27 (1) of the Anti Corruption Commission Act, 2004, sections 4 (2) and 4 (3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, section 5 (2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and section 109 of the Penal Code.
The ACC in its plea today stated that a travel embargo should be imposed on them until the completion of the probe into the cases. Meanwhile, the same court also imposed a travel ban on Sirajganj district Awami League president KM Hossain Ali, his wife Golenur, and daughter Hasna Hena, who is the district women’s Awami League general secretary. ACC deputy assistant director Abu Sayeed filed a plea in this regard, which was allowed by the court.
