Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on Md Asad, managing director (MD) of real estate firm Alampana Builders Limited, over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the anti-graft body has already filed three cases against the accused for disbursing and subsequently embezzling money from a state-owned bank. Despite multiple notices served during the investigation, Asad refrained from appearing before the ACC or submitting any documents in this connection.
The plea from the ACC indicated that there is information suggesting the accused is planning to flee the country to evade justice. The travel ban, therefore, has been deemed necessary to ensure a proper investigation into the graft allegations.
