Dhaka:The Transfer of Property (Amendment) Bill, 2026, has introduced a mechanism that allows donors to retain the right to possess and enjoy a gifted property during their lifetime, even after transferring it within specific family relationships.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the bill has added new Sections 122A and 122B under Section 122 of the Transfer of Property Act, 1882, to accommodate these changes.

These provisions aim to preserve the donor's lifetime rights in cases of gifts or transfers made within certain family contexts. The details of these amendments were outlined in a letter from the Political-2 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The bill was officially introduced in the National Parliament on September 6, marking a significant update to the existing property transfer regulations.
