Dhaka: A tourist died after falling into the sea while parasailing at the Sea Sports Parasailing Point in the Dariyanagar area along Cox's Bazar's Marine Drive.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased was identified as Shouvik Roy, a resident of Khulna district. He had traveled to Cox's Bazar with a tour group. Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, reported that the accident occurred at around 12:30 pm in the Dariyanagar beach area.

Subaktagin Mohammad Sahel, Resident Medical Officer of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, stated that Shouvik was brought to the hospital at around 2:10 pm but had died before arrival. "Initially, it is believed that he died after falling into the sea. However, the exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report is received," he said.

Mahmudul Hasan, Executive Magistrate of the District Administration's Tourism Cell, confirmed that the tourist was critically injured after falling and was declared dead at the hospital. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue, and legal procedures are underway.

Meanwhile, locals have raised concerns over the safety measures in place for parasailing operations in Cox's Bazar. They claim that despite previous accidents involving the same operator, effective steps to improve safety or hold responsible parties accountable have not been taken.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan revealed that no permission had been granted to operate parasailing on the beach. "They are operating parasailing illegally. Despite being evicted several times, they have continued the operation secretly. Necessary action will be taken against the operators," he stated.
