Dhaka: Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin emphasized the multifaceted role of tourism, highlighting its significance beyond economic benefits, at the World Tourism Day 2025 event held at the Tourism Building in Agargaon. Bashiruddin stressed that tourism should be perceived as a means to spread purity, safety, and foster family happiness and togetherness.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was attended by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, along with secretaries from the Civil Aviation and Tourism and Women and Children Affairs ministries. The gathering also included representatives from foreign embassies, officials from tourism bodies, senior government officials, and media professionals.

Bashiruddin elaborated on his vision, stating, “Tourism is not merely about strengthening the economy. It is about purity, safety, family joy, and inclusivity. Travelling together builds harmony in families, societies, and the state, and reshapes our lives.” He further mentioned that the ministry has introduced a Code of Conduct for Tourists, developed with input from all stakeholders to ensure safe, smooth, and enjoyable travel experiences.

Expressing gratitude to contributors, Bashiruddin voiced hope for the upcoming National Tourism Master Plan, which he envisions will promote clean environments, family-friendly atmospheres, and secure journeys. Earlier in the day, he inaugurated a vibrant rally that passed key landmarks including the Election Commission, University Grants Commission, Government Music College, and Public Service Commission before returning to its starting point.

The day’s celebrations also featured a bicycle rally, city tour, and cultural show, underscoring the theme of tourism as a vehicle for joy and unity.
