Dhaka: A total eclipse of the moon is set to occur on March 3, Tuesday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate announced this development earlier today. During the total lunar eclipse, the moon will spend 58 minutes and 18 seconds completely within Earth’s umbra, reaching a magnitude of approximately 1.115, which indicates that the moon will be fully engulfed by Earth’s shadow.
A total lunar eclipse takes place when the moon’s near side passes entirely into Earth’s umbral shadow. The ISPR release mentioned that the end of the partial phase of this eclipse will be visible in Bangladesh shortly after moonrise, provided that the sky remains clear. The moon is scheduled to enter the penumbra at 2:42 pm Bangladesh Time and will reach totality at 5:03 pm on March 3, exiting the penumbra at 8:24 pm.
The release also detailed the timings for the eclipse’s visibility across different cities in Bangladesh. The sighting will commence at 6:01 pm in Dhaka, at 6:00 pm in Mymensingh, 5:56 pm in Chattogram, 5:54 pm in Sylhet division, 5:05 pm in Khulna, 5:01 pm in Barishal, 5:07 pm in Rajshahi, and 5:04 pm in Rangpur division. The observation of the eclipse in the divisional cities is expected to conclude at 8:28 pm in Rangpur Division, as stated by the ISPR.
