DHAKA, Due to impacts of cyclonic storm Remal, the capital Dhaka has been witnessing torrential rain since morning which hampered the city life. City dwellers especially office and schools goers and wage earners were the worst sufferer of the rain along with gusty wind. According to met office, Dhaka today experienced 125 millimeters of rain today. Due to non-stop rain, many streets in the city went under water. Water-logging occurred in many areas in the city. Many people had to suffer for not getting any public transport to reach destinations. CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers and rickshaw pullers also were also seen taking additional fare from passengers. Even rickshaw pullers and auto rickshaw drivers denied going many areas due to water logging. NGO employee Kamal Hossain left Matuail's house around nine in the morning to go to work place Motijheel. He got wet while standing at Matuail bus station without getting a bus. After a long time around 10 am a bus came and he went to Gulistan facing massive ha ssle as the bus was over-crowded. A woman named Mosammat Faizunnessa left her residence in the city's Sign Board area at eight o'clock in the morning for Farmgate. She first came to the bus station by rickshaw. She stood there waiting for the bus. But all the buses coming at the bus-stop were loaded with passengers and doors of the buses also remained closed. As a result, she could not get on any bus. Talking to BSS around 10:30 am, she said she didn't get any bus or CNG-run auto-rickshaws in the rain till then. Many low-lying areas in the capital including Manik Mia Avenue, Dhanmondi Road No. 27, Green Road, New Market, Mirpur's Kazipara, Shewrapara, Mirpur-10 crossing to Mirpur-14 witnessed water-logging. Besides, the rain caused water-logging in various roads of the capital including around New Market and Karwan Bazar area. Qutubkhali, Shanir Akhra, Medical Road, Signboard and Chittagong Road areas, Demra DND area were submerged in rain water. Due to the gusty winds under the influence of Cyclone Rema l, trees have also fallen in several areas in the capital. A large Krishnachura tree has been broken by the storm in the Govt. D type Quarter area in Paikpara area of Mirpur. A few trees also collapsed in the area around Ramana Park. As a result, vehicular movement on that street remained stopped until the city corporation workers took away the trees. Metro rail movement has been disrupted for several occasions since morning.
