Netrokona: The body of a one-and-a-half-year-old child was recovered from the Kangsha River in the Jaria Purba Para area under Purbadhala upazila of the district this morning, about 18 hours after she went missing following an accidental fall into the river. Sadia Akhtar, the child, was the daughter of Mosharraf Hossain of Gangger Bera village under Ghagra Union.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sadia's grandmother had left her sitting on the riverbank while she was busy washing clothes. During this time, the child inadvertently fell into the river. Despite the family's immediate search efforts, they were unable to locate her and subsequently informed the Purbadhala Fire Service for assistance. A team of divers conducted a rescue operation until 7pm on Friday but was unable to find Sadia.
Early today, around 8am, locals discovered the body in the river approximately five kilometers away from where she initially went missing and promptly notified the police. Following this, police, Fire Service personnel, and the family members arrived at the scene and recovered the child's body.
Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that police visited the scene. Since the family did not file any complaint, Sadia's body was handed over to her relatives. An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed with the police station, as per protocol.
