Tangail: A total of 56,239 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in a 24-hour period until midnight Wednesday, generating toll revenue of TK 3,82,97,050 during the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Executive Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin of the Jamuna Bridge site office reported that 36,426 vehicles crossed the bridge heading toward northern Bangladesh, resulting in toll revenue of TK 2,21,04,200. In contrast, 19,813 vehicles traveled toward Dhaka, generating TK 1,61,92,850 as tolls.
Riaz Uddin explained that during the Eid holidays, 18 toll booths are operational, with nine on each side of the bridge. Additionally, separate booths have been set up for motorcycles, with two dedicated on each side.
The official noted that rain early today, combined with heavy traffic, led to some congestion. Tangail Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar informed BSS that the Dhaka-Tangail highway section connected to the Jamuna Bridge is experiencing heavy traffic pressure.
He mentioned that due to the morning rain, vehicle movement was slow, but traffic conditions are expected to improve as the day progresses. To manage traffic congestion, around 1,000 police personnel have been deployed at various points along the highway.
