Dhaka: The government has allocated a total of Taka 200 million as recurring grants to 13 city corporations across the country to ensure primary healthcare services for urban residents in the 2026-27 fiscal year. The Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued an order in this regard on September 13 through its Urban Development-1 wing, as stated in a press release today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of Taka 20 crore has been allocated under the recurring grant category from the operating budget of the Local Government Division as assistance for primary healthcare in the city corporations. The allocation also includes 25 percent of the amount committed by the Local Government Division for urban primary healthcare services.
Among the recipients, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) received the highest allocation of Taka 4.50 crore, while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) received Taka 4.39 crore. Additionally, Gazipur City Corporation received Taka 2.28 crore, Chattogram City Corporation Taka two crore, Bogura City Corporation Taka 1.75 crore, and Rajshahi City Corporation got Taka 1.02 crore.
Among the other city corporations, Taka 73 lakh was allocated for Narayanganj, Taka 72 lakh for Barishal, Taka 65 lakh for Mymensingh, Taka 60 lakh for Khulna, Taka 52 lakh each for Cumilla and Rangpur, and Taka 32 lakh was allocated for Sylhet City Corporation.
The order instructed the authorities to strictly follow the prevailing financial rules and regulations in spending the allocated funds. At the time of approving subsequent fund releases, expenditure statements for the current fiscal year must be submitted in coordination with the offices of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) and the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer (CAO). The order also stated that the authority responsible for drawing the relevant bills would be held accountable for any irregularities in the use of the allocated funds in the future.
