Dhaka: The Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Foundation today approved Tk 12 crore 98 lakh 65 thousand in financial assistance for 2,199 workers and their families in the formal and informal sectors. The board also approved a budget of Tk 68 crore 50 lakh 10 thousand for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decisions were taken at the 34th meeting of the board, held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, with Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury in the chair. The minister emphasized that ensuring workers’ welfare, supporting them during disasters and difficult times, and strengthening the social safety net are among the government’s priorities.
Minister Choudhury highlighted the need for coordinated efforts by the government, employers, and workers’ organisations to establish a balanced, worker-friendly, and exploitation-free labour environment. Labour Secretary Md. Abdur Rahman Tarafder, Foundation Director General Mohammad Kuddus Ali Sarker, and representatives of ministries, workers, and employers attended the meeting.
