Dhaka:Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning, Prof Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, emphasized the need to increase the education sector's funding while ensuring the proper utilization of these funds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Titumir made these remarks at a reception and scholarship distribution event for 31 meritorious children of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) members. The children were recognized for achieving GPA-5 in the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the 2025 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.
The event took place at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of DRU, chaired by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, with General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel moderating. Dr. Titumir stressed that success is important but emphasized the significance of self-love, as well as love for family, country, and humanity.
He expressed concern over the declining interest in science, mathematics, and technology education, urging students to highlight their importance. Dr. Titumir also warned about the quality of education, stating it would be problematic if students completing Class XII have only Class VII-level knowledge.
He stated that education should aim to foster citizenship, enhance skills, and create opportunities for innovation. He encouraged the new generation to advance Bangladesh through knowledge, research, and innovation while playing a role in building a democratic and just state.
DRU President Akon encouraged students to use their knowledge for the country's welfare, and DRU General Secretary Sohel highlighted the students' roles as the future of national development. Abdul Quaium Chowdhury from South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank also addressed the event.
The program concluded with the presentation of reception crests and scholarships to the students, attended by DRU office-bearers, members, and their families.
