Rajshahi:The Tirobhav Mahotsav of Thakur Narottam Das, a revered saint of Sanatan Vaishnavism, has commenced at the historic Kheturidham in Premtali of Godagari Upazila, Rajshahi. The festival has infused vibrancy into Kheturidham, located on the bank of the Padma, with devotees and saints arriving from both domestic and international locations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the centuries-old festival features a traditional fair, with law enforcement agencies, including police and BGB, deployed to ensure the safety of attendees. The grand three-day event began on Thursday at 4 pm, featuring bhajan-kirtan, evening aarti, Damodar aarti, Narottam Charitkatha, and Adhivas kirtan.

Friday marked the second day of the festival, with Mangal Aarti, Harinam Sankirtan, circumambulation of Kheturidham, Darshan Aarti, and Srila Prabhupada Guru Puja taking place from early morning. Devotees are participating in Ashtaprahar Kirtan, Prasad distribution, and various religious rituals, with the Mahotsav scheduled to conclude on Saturday with Ganga Snan and long prayers.

A large fair has been established at Kheturidham, offering a variety of foods, clothing, household goods, handicrafts, and products from blacksmiths and potters, in addition to religious items. Organizers note that while the fair primarily serves as a gathering place for saints and sages, it also draws people from various classes and professions, fostering a bond of harmony.

Shyamapada Sanyal, Secretary of the Kheturidham Trustee Board, highlighted the festival's long-standing tradition of religious solemnity and management, expressing hope for a smooth completion with the cooperation of the Trustee Board and local authorities. Officer-in-Charge Sujan Mia assured that comprehensive safety measures are in place, with police and BGB members maintaining round-the-clock vigilance.

Israt Jahan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Godagari, confirmed that necessary preparations have been made by the Upazila administration to ensure a peaceful festival, with district authorities providing ongoing support.

Historically, Thakur Narottam Das, born in the 16th century in the Premtali area, renounced a life of luxury to dedicate himself to religious practice and service. He established an ashram at Kheturi, contributing significantly to the Gaudiya Vaishnava society and Bengali literature. The Tirobhav Mahotsav is held annually at Kheturidham in his memory.
