Lalmonirhat:Several hundred residents of Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat are on high alert after a tiger was sighted near the Amjhol border in Gotamari union. The animal remains elusive despite ongoing efforts to locate it.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the tiger was first detected by a drone camera around midnight on Sunday, following an attack on three individuals, including a woman, in the border area that afternoon. However, the tiger moved out of the camera's range, complicating tracking efforts.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is actively conducting drone surveillance to determine the tiger's location, while a special team from the Forest Department is attempting to safely rescue the animal. The attacks have prompted hundreds of local residents to remain vigilant, armed with sticks and makeshift weapons to protect themselves.
All three victims of the tiger attack have been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. The BGB also fired several blank shots to scare the animal away. Local authorities suspect the tiger may have crossed into Bangladesh from India, while residents believe it could be a large leopard. Efforts to confirm the animal's species and capture it safely are ongoing.
