Khulna: Three youths were killed and one received bullet injuries in separate incidents in Khulna last night. In Rupsha upazila, three youths were seriously injured around 9pm yesterday during a shooting incident between two rival groups at Sohel’s residence in Rajapur village under Rupsha upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Sabbir, 27, and Saddam Hossain, 29. Saddam Hossain is the son of Nur Islam of Sonar Bangla lane under Sobadang police station. Detailed information about Sabbir’s identity is yet to be confirmed. Md Ashraful Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Rajapur police camp, reported that the youths were injured in a gunfight between two rival groups.
The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where Sabbir was declared dead by the duty doctor. Saddam Hossain succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Another youth, Miraz alias Kaua Miraz, 29, managed to escape from the hospital during treatment. Both victims were reportedly part of a local gang led by a notorious criminal known as ‘Grenade Babu.’ A rival group initiated the gun attack, resulting in the violent encounter. Authorities recovered two live bullets and two empty shells from the scene and have initiated a drive to apprehend the assailants.
In a separate incident, Babul Dutta, 50, a sand and land trader, was murdered in the Rajbandh South Para area of Khulna city under Harintana police station around 9 pm Thursday. Officer-in-Charge of Harintana Police Station Khairul Bashar stated that Babul was returning home on his motorcycle when he was intercepted by assailants who dragged him into an empty plot and slit his throat. Police recovered his body around 10:30 pm and sent it for autopsy. The motive behind Babul’s murder remains unclear, and legal procedures are ongoing.
