Dhaka: A Dhaka court has granted a six-day police remand for three suspects in the murder case of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo, who was fatally stabbed at Suhrawardi Udyan on May 13.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspects, identified as Tamim Hawlader, aged 30, Samrat Mallik, aged 28, and Palash Sardar, aged 28, were presented in court by Sub-Inspector Taufiq Hasan, the Investigation Officer of the case. The court order was passed by Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court after the Investigation Officer requested a 10-day remand to interrogate the suspects thoroughly.
The Investigation Officer asserted in his petition that the accused were directly involved in the murder and required further questioning. The suspects were apprehended from different locations within the city on the night of the incident, May 13.
On May 14, the accused were initially sent to jail following their presentation in another court within the metropolis. Shahriar Alam Shammo, the victim, was a final year student of the Institute of Education and Research at Dhaka University and served as the literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
The murder case was filed by Shammo’s brother, Shariful Islam, with Shahbagh Police Station on May 14, marking the start of the investigation into the tragic incident.
