Dhaka: A tribunal in Jamalpur on Monday sentenced three individuals to death for violating a woman in 2024. Judge Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 delivered the verdict.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the condemned convicts are identified as Abdus Sattar, aged 42, from Shankarpur village, Abdul Malek, 44, and Anwar Hossain Anu, 32. Alongside the death sentence, the court also imposed a life imprisonment penalty on them for the abduction of the woman prior to the assault.
The prosecution detailed that the victim, a mother of two, resided alone in her house at Rashidpur Bhatipara village in the Sadar upazila of the district. Abdus Sattar, one of the convicts, had been harassing her for some time. On the night of October 19, 2024, Sattar, accompanied by 4-5 others including the two other convicts, forcibly entered her home around 11 pm. They abducted her to a nearby bamboo bush where she was violated in turns.
Following the heinous incident, the woman courageously filed a case with the Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, leading to the eventual trial and conviction of the perpetrators.
