Three Sentenced to Death for Murder of University Student Jisan

Dhaka: A court here today sentenced three people to death in a case lodged over the murder of European University of Bangladesh student Ismail Hossain Jisan. Dhaka 5th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Farjana Yasmin pronounced the judgment in the presence of the two convicts - Hasibul Hossain alias Hasib and Abdullah Al Noman. Another convict, Shrabon alias Shaon, is still at large, and the court today also issued an arrest warrant against him. The court also acquitted accused Sajani Akter as the charges framed against her were not proved by the prosecution.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents reveal that Jisan, a student of the Civil Engineering Department of the university, used to work as a Pathao rider apart from his studies. He went missing from Shyamoli in the capital on May 12, 2019. His father, Sabbir Hossain Sahid, filed a general diary with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Jisan's almost decomposed body was recovered from the septic tank of the house of Hasibul Hossain in Moddho Kamar Juri under Gacha Police Station in Gazipur on May 23, 2019.

Jisan's father filed the case on that day with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Police on January 12, 2020, filed a charge sheet against four individuals. The court on March 30, 2022, framed charges in the case and officially initiated the trial. The court today delivered the judgment after examining 18 out of the total 25 witnesses on different hearing dates.
