Three Political Leaders Arrested Over Fatal Shooting of Student Activist.

Dhaka: Police early today arrested two Awami League (AL) and a Jubo League (JL) leaders from the city’s Abdullahpur area over the killing of Amir Hossain during the student movement. The arrested individuals are Ahmed Ali, 50, former forest and environment secretary of Turag Thana AL, Subhas Chandra, 50, vice-president of 5 no unit of Uttara Model Town, and Jubo League leader Shafiqul alias Sharif alias Shawon, 36. The arrests were confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, Muhammad Talebur Rahman. He stated that the trio was apprehended in Abdullahpur area under Uttara Pashchim Police Station around 4:30 am.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was made in connection with a murder case filed with Uttara Pashchim Thana on November 2. The case statement alleges that Amir sustained critical bullet wounds when leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organizations opened indiscriminate fire at a demonstration he participated in on Jasim Uddin Road under U
ttara Pashchim Thana on August 5. Amir was subsequently taken to the local Medical College for Women and Hospital, where attending doctors pronounced him dead.
