Three Family Members Suffer Burns in Chandpur Gas Cylinder Explosion

Chandpur: Three members of a family sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion while preparing Sehri early this morning in Kachua upazila of the district. The injured are Khadija Akhter, 30, her husband Md. Mahmudul, 36, and sister-in-law Sheuli Akhter, 40.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred around 4:00 am at a house in Hossainpur village under Kachua South union. Family sources revealed that Khadija went to the kitchen to prepare Sehri when a gas leak from a cylinder triggered an explosion as the stove was lit. Mahmudul and Shiuli were burned while attempting to rescue her.



They were first taken to Kachua Upazila Health Complex. Later, they were shifted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for advanced care. Khadija Akhter suffered 35 percent burns and has been admitted to the emergency department. Mahmudul, who sustained 4 percent burns, and Shiuli Akhter, with 2 percent burn injuries, are under observation.



Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kachua Police Station Borhan Uddin confirmed the details of the incident.
