Munshiganj: A number of initiatives and development projects, including building a medical college, have been taken at a meeting held today at Munshiganj with the presence of three advisers of the interim government. Home and Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki joined the meeting at the district administration's conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, several key decisions were taken during the meeting for the development of the district. These include the establishment of a government medical college, repair and construction of various roads, and the development of the Kathakhali canal flowing through the district's urban areas. The meeting was attended by Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Economic Relations Division Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary to Local Government Division Mohammad Nijam Uddin, Secretary to Housing and Public Works Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Secretary to Economic Division Dr. Mohammad Khairuzzaman Majumder, and Cultural Affairs Secretary (Routine Affairs) Mohammad Mofidur Rahman, with Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatema Tul Jannat in the chair.
Besides, Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center Major General Abdul Kayum Molla, Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber, Bangladesh Police Additional IGP Golam Rasul, and LGED Chief Engineer Mohammad Abdur Rashid were also present. Decisions were taken for the renovation of Munshiganj Municipality Bhaban, damaged during the July revolution, and the restoration of the dilapidated Shilpakala Academy of the district.
A travel book titled 'Protnokotha,' compiled by Additional District Commissioner (Revenue) Sharif Ullah, was unveiled during the meeting. The book highlights archaeological and tourist sites across Munshiganj's six upazilas.
Home and Agriculture Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, speaking to the media after the meeting, mentioned discussions on various developmental issues and consultations with senior officials from relevant departments to address district issues. He announced the establishment of a medical college on the current General Hospital site and surrounding area, completion of the Mollarhat Bridge on Betka-Taghariya Road, and construction of a cold storage facility for potato seeds in Tongibari. Additionally, work will begin to expand the Munshiganj-Shreenagar road to four lanes, and discussions are ongoing to construct a bridge over the Fuldi River in Gojaria.
The home adviser also announced funding would be allocated for developing the historic Idrakpur Fort, an important archaeological site in the district.
