Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) detained three activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) following a procession in the Muradpur area under Panchlaish Thana early today. Officer-in-charge of Panchlaish police station Mohammad Solaiman confirmed the matter.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, locals reported that around 20 to 25 activists of Chattogram (North) District Chhatra League initiated a procession at approximately 6:45 am, which lasted for seven to ten minutes. The OC stated that the detained individuals were members of the banned BCL, and efforts are underway to apprehend the others who participated in the procession.

Upon receiving information about the procession, a team from Panchlaish police station arrived at the scene and pursued the suspects. Three individuals were arrested during the incident, while the others managed to flee. The arrested BCL activists are identified as Anwarul Haque Ishan (17), son of Azizul Haque Babul from the Panchlaish area, Rajan Das (19), son of Pradeep Chandra Das, and Saikat Chandra Bhowmik (19), son of Priyo Lal Chandra Bhowmik.

The OC of Panchlaish Police Station commented, “Three individuals were caught red-handed during the procession…Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.” The interim government had banned BCL on October 23 last year following demands from the student movement against discrimination.
