Thousands of devotees from different communities gathered at the Rajban monastery in Rangamati to observe the 107th birth anniversary of the esteemed Buddhist monk, Sreemat Sadhanananda Mahasthabir, also known as Bana Bhante. The celebration drew visitors from various backgrounds who came to pay their respects to the arahant and enlightened figure.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, from the early hours, people from all walks of life placed wreaths at Bana Bhante’s preserved mortal remains, which are kept in a special casket at the monastery since his passing on January 30, 2012. The Rajban Vihar Management Committee, led by General Secretary Amiya Khisa, organized a seven-day-long programme to commemorate the occasion.
The monastery premises hosted various rites, including Panchashil prayers and other offerings. The chief abbot, venerable Prajnalankar Mahasthabir, delivered religious sermons to the attendees. The event was marked by t
he presence of BNP leader Dipen Dewan, Buddhist monks, and thousands of devotees who participated in prayers for amity, compassion, peace, and prosperity both nationally and globally.
Bana Bhante, born on January 8, 1920, in Rangamati, achieved Mohaparinirvana on January 30, 2012, at the age of approximately 93.
