Dhaka: Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin announced today that the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will not be inaugurated during the interim government’s tenure. This statement was made during a press conference held at the Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press conference was organized to mark the promulgation of the Civil Aviation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, and the Bangladesh Travel Agency (Registration and Control) Amendment Ordinance, 2025. In response to a journalist’s query about whether the terminal could be opened under the current government, the adviser confirmed that it would not be possible, despite the best efforts made.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin explained that the government has made extensive attempts to operationalize the terminal, including negotiations and meetings with the Japanese vice minister. However, these efforts have not yielded the desired outcome. He added that current work is focused on activating the procedural requirements necessary for commissioning the terminal and completing preparatory processes for future operations.
The final decision on opening the terminal will be made by the next government. Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Nasreen Jahan was also present at the press conference.
