Thakurgaon: Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh candidate Md Mizanur Rahman has made a commitment to provide accessible healthcare services to the residents of Thakurgaon-3 if he secures a victory in the upcoming 13th national elections. During an interview with BSS Thakurgaon district correspondent Zakir Mostafiz Milu, Rahman shared his strategy to enhance healthcare and other essential services for the constituents.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rahman emphasized the plight of farmers in his constituency, stating that they often do not receive fair compensation for their produce. He assured that his party would address this by purchasing agricultural products at equitable prices. The existing healthcare infrastructure was also highlighted as insufficient, with only a 50-bed upazila health complex catering to a significantly larger population. Rahman proposed an upgrade to a 300-bed facility and pledged free medical care for children under five and senior citizens over sixty, should his party come to power.
The interview also revealed Rahman's plans to support educational institutions lacking infrastructure and official registration, as well as address the poor condition of roads in the area. Security assurances for minority communities were also part of his agenda.
When questioned about adherence to electoral conduct, Rahman confirmed that both he and his supporters are in full compliance with the Election Commission's guidelines. He expressed his stance on the referendum regarding the July Charter, advocating for participation to honor those who suffered in the July movement and urging a 'Yes' vote from the public.
Rahman conveyed his hopes for a neutral election that would provide a level playing field, reflecting the aspirations and promises of the people.
Thakurgaon-3, comprising Pirganj and Ranishankail upazilas, includes 16 unions and two municipalities, with a voter base of 3,61,044. The constituency will witness a contest among 10 candidates, including BNP's Md Zahidur Rahman, Jamaat's Md Mizanur Rahman, and Jatiya Party's Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
