Thakurgaon:The district administration has imposed a restriction on outsiders from staying in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency from 800 am on October 27 to 400 pm on October 30. This measure is to ensure a peaceful and impartial by-election scheduled for October 29.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the restriction was announced through a public notice signed by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Rafiqul Huq. The notice states that individuals who are neither residents nor registered voters of the constituency will not be allowed to stay in the area during the specified period.

However, exemptions to this restriction apply to election officials, individuals authorized by the Election Commission, as well as residents and registered voters of the constituency. The notice also warns that legal action will be taken against anyone violating the directive.

The election campaigning is set to conclude at 800 am on October 27, and preparations for the by-election have been completed. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Huq explained that the restriction aims to ensure that voters can attend polling stations and cast their votes without fear or intimidation.

The by-election will take place in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, which includes Thakurgaon Sadar, Ruhia, and Bhulli. This area comprises 22 unions and one municipality across the aforementioned upazilas.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin expressed confidence that the Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary by-election will be conducted commendably, akin to the February 12 national election. He assured that the election would be held in a manner that would earn appreciation, similar to the 13th parliamentary election.

Five candidates are contesting the by-election Mirza Faisal Amin of the BNP; Delwar Hossain, representing Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded parties; Md Khademul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Md Abdul Alim Nizami of Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan; and Hussain Muhammad Omar Faruk of Bangladesh Congress.
