Teesta Master Plan Implementation Slated for 2026: Rizwana

Rangpur: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has announced that the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan project is set to begin in 2026. She expressed the interim government’s commitment to initiating the project within the proposed timeline.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Syeda Rizwana Hasan made these remarks to reporters following her visit to the Teesta river erosion-affected areas in Panjarbhanga, Kawnia upazila of Rangpur, despite challenging weather conditions on Tuesday afternoon.



She elaborated that the Teesta Master Plan is a significant and long-term initiative. The previous administration had attempted to implement the plan without adequately considering the perspectives of the communities residing along the riverbanks.



However, the current government is actively working to execute the Teesta Master Plan with the involvement and consultation of the local population. Syeda Rizwana Hasan reiterated her optimism that the project would commence by 2026, ensuring that the riverbank communities are safeguarded against future erosion.



The adviser also highlighted the interim government’s ongoing efforts to effectively curb river erosion. Present at the briefing were Director General of the Water Development Board Engineer Md Enayet Ullah, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Mobashsherul Islam, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Islam, Chief Engineer of the Water Development Board’s Rangpur Zone Engineer Md Mahbubur Rahman, along with other officials.
