Teenager Killed in High-Speed Motorcycle Crash in Sylhet

Sylhet: A teenage boy was killed and another seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Sylhet on Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Mazharul Islam Rana, 15, while the injured rider is his friend Md Lijan, 14, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the accident occurred around 1:15 pm in the Madani area on Baluchar Road in the city. Police and locals reported that the motorcycle was being driven at high speed when it veered onto the footpath and collided with an electric pole. Rana died instantly, and Lijan was rescued by locals and transported to the hospital in a CNG auto-rickshaw.



Rana was the son of Mohammad Raju Mia from C Block in the Uposhahar residential area, while Lijan is the son of Jalal Uddin, a resident of B Block in the same locality. Rana’s father rushed to the hospital upon hearing the tragic news of his son’s death.



Officer-in-Charge of Shah Paran Police Station, Khondaker Mostafizur Rahman, confirmed the incident, stating that police visited the scene after receiving the information. He noted that the accident was caused by reckless driving. Rana’s body has been taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue and will be handed over to the family after an autopsy.
