Dhaka: Education Adviser Prof Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar emphasized that true success in teaching is defined by a teacher's ability to engage students who are lagging behind and help them progress, rather than focusing solely on advancing talented students. He shared these insights while speaking as the chief guest at the closing and certificate-awarding ceremony of the 206th foundation training course for BCS General Education Cadre officers, held at the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) auditorium in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Abrar highlighted the issue of labeling students as weak or bad due to their academic struggles, describing this approach as misguided. He urged educators to see these challenges as opportunities for growth, questioning why a student might struggle to understand a lesson and how a teacher can alter their methods to improve comprehension.
Prof Abrar advised teachers to practice empathy with students who are falling behind, advocating for a teaching approach that is inclusive and supportive of all learning levels. He encouraged educators to view teaching as more than just a job, but as a noble responsibility that extends throughout one's career.
He further elaborated on the role of educators in nation-building, stressing that the honor associated with teaching is earned through conduct, competence, and adherence to high ethical standards. Prof Abrar called for teachers to avoid partisan politics and to achieve professional excellence through merit and performance.
The event was attended by Professor BM Abdul Hannan, Director General (Additional Charge) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, along with senior education officials and training experts. NAEM Director General (routine duty) Professor Dr. Shah Md. Amir Ali presided over the ceremony.
In conclusion, Prof Abrar distributed certificates to the officers who successfully completed the training course and awarded medals to those who demonstrated outstanding performance.
