Chattogram:Tea prices at the weekly auction in Chattogram eased as demand slightly declined ahead of the upcoming holidays. The decrease was particularly noted in medium- and lower-quality varieties.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, blenders were active in the market, supported by some interest from loose-tea buyers. Well-made teas with good flavor attracted strong competition, maintaining their price levels. However, dust tea faced reduced demand.
At the auction, 51,530 packages of CTC leaf tea were offered, encountering fairly good demand. Although well-made broken teas with good flavor saw good demand, prices occasionally dropped by up to Tk 5. Other tea varieties experienced weaker demand, with price reductions of up to Tk 8. BLF teas also saw fairly good demand, but their prices eased slightly compared to the previous auction.
Additionally, 10,451 packages of fannings tea were offered, which also met fairly good demand. While good-quality dust tea was sold at slightly lower prices, medium-quality dust tea attracted good demand but saw prices fall between Tk 5 and Tk 8, depending on quality. Plain and BLF dust teas faced weaker demand, leading to the withdrawal of a fair number of lots from sale. Blenders provided strong market support, complemented by some interest from loose-tea buyers.
