Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended heartfelt greetings to the citizens of Bangladesh on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr. In a message shared on his verified Facebook account, Rahman expressed his joy at the prospect of celebrating Eid in a fearless, free, and democratic environment for the first time in a decade and a half, following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's regime.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rahman highlighted the new level of excitement and enthusiasm accompanying this year's Eid celebrations. He reflected on the month-long fasting period, emphasizing the lessons of sacrifice, piety, and restraint. Eid-ul-Fitr, he noted, not only brings a message of universal unity, solidarity, and compassion but also purifies and beautifies the lives of individuals, families, society, and the state.
In his message, Rahman extended his sincere greetings and congratulations to the global Muslim community, wishing everyone Eid Mubarak. However, he acknowledged that the period of joy is marred for some due to the absence of a festive atmosphere in families affected by enforced disappearances, murders, kidnappings, and oppression under the previous AL regime. Rahman lamented that many families who lost members in the movement to overthrow fascism cannot experience the joy of Eid today.
Through the joy of Eid, Rahman conveyed a message of unity, emphasizing that the festival encourages overcoming mental ugliness, injustice, and social inequality. He called upon Muslims to extend compassion and support to the relatively poor, neglected, and deprived members of society, inspired by the spirit of Eid.
Rahman concluded his message by wishing happiness, peace, progress, and prosperity to the people of Bangladesh and the global Muslim community.
