Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is preparing to visit his mother, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, at Evercare Hospital upon his return to Bangladesh after nearly 18 years in exile.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made by Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP Standing Committee Member and convener of the Tarique Rahman reception committee, during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. He detailed Rahman’s travel itinerary, stating that he would depart from London’s Heathrow Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight and arrive in Dhaka after a stopover in Sylhet.

The BNP Standing Committee has organized a reception at the airport, after which Rahman will proceed to the hospital to be with Khaleda Zia. A brief public event is planned on the service lane of the 36 July Expressway, allowing Rahman to express gratitude to the nation and request prayers for Khaleda Zia.

Salahuddin emphasized that Rahman does not support any activities causing public inconvenience. He has advised expatriate leaders against gathering at the London airport and requested that no party programs in Bangladesh disrupt public life. Rahman has chosen a government holiday for his return to minimize disruption, and a concise event is planned on the less crowded 300-Foot Road.

No other speakers will join Rahman at the event. Despite efforts to manage the influx of supporters, the BNP anticipates a large gathering. Salahuddin apologized for any inconvenience caused by the essential programs organized for Rahman’s return.

Detailed parking arrangements have been announced for various entry points in Dhaka, with facilities available in both South and North Dhaka. Medical services, including 20 medical camps and a six-bed field hospital, will be available near the event site. Help desks and motorcycle squads will ensure smooth traffic flow around the airport.

Salahuddin also outlined Rahman’s plans following his return, including visits to significant sites like the mazar of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the National Martyrs’ Memorial. Rahman will also complete his NID card and voter registration process and visit other notable locations.

Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, Chief Security Officer for Khaleda Zia and Rahman, noted that security arrangements are in place with government cooperation. Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel from the BNP Media Cell detailed media arrangements, emphasizing the need for cooperation and adherence to security protocols.

The final briefing on preparations has been delivered, with BNP activists expressing excitement over Rahman’s return. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Member Secretary of the reception committee, highlighted the importance of media support and expressed gratitude for their cooperation.
