Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today paid tributes to his father and BNP founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, by placing a wreath at his grave. Accompanied by thousands of party leaders and activists, Rahman also offered prayers at Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this visit marks the first time since September 1, 2006, that Tarique Rahman has offered prayers at his father’s grave, following his appointment as the senior joint secretary general of BNP. After paying tributes, Rahman proceeded to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, where he is scheduled to honor the martyrs of the Great War of Liberation.
Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh from London on Thursday after nearly 17 years in exile. His return was met with a massive reception by the citizens and the party. A grand reception was held for him at the July 36 Expressway in the city, attended by millions. Following the reception, Rahman visited Evercare Hospital to see his ailing mother, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
