Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today condemned recent Israeli plans to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank, describing the move as one that makes a future Palestinian state virtually impossible. He shared his perspective on his verified Facebook page.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman asserted in his Facebook post that Bangladeshis worldwide have consistently shown solidarity with the Palestinian people against what he termed violent colonial oppression and erasure. He described the continued actions by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as no less than genocide and planned ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, calling the situation ‘abhorrent.’
Tarique Rahman also expressed concern for the safety and security of many Bangladeshis residing and working in the Middle East and Gulf region. He stated that the current Israeli government’s actions are pushing the entire region towards an abyss.
He concluded his statement with a strong appeal to the international community, urging them to condemn and exert pressure on the Israeli government over their settlement plans. He also called on the International Court of Justice not to delay their verdict on what he views as a clear genocide in Gaza by the Israeli government, highlighting the continued suffering of Palestinians.
