Dhaka: The first meeting of the new cabinet of the present BNP government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was held at the Cabinet Division in Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon. Prime Minister Rahman presided over the meeting, marking his formal commencement of office at the Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by members of the newly sworn-in cabinet, along with the cabinet secretary and other relevant secretaries. The meeting, which started at 3:00 pm, served primarily as an introductory session. During this meeting, the Prime Minister exchanged pleasantries with his cabinet colleagues and provided guidelines to the ministries concerned, as per his party's election manifesto.
Earlier, Tarique Rahman arrived at the Cabinet Division around 12.30 pm to chair the first cabinet meeting of his government. On his arrival, he was welcomed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar.
Tarique Rahman, also the Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), took oath as the country's 11th Prime Minister, five days after his party achieved a landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election on February 12, securing 209 parliamentary seats out of 297.
