Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called upon all to work together to build the country: Speaking at the award-giving ceremony of the Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Cricket Tournament-2025 in West London on Sunday, Rahman emphasized the importance of unity despite differences of opinion in a democratic society.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was broadcast live on Facebook from Rahman’s verified account. He articulated that if the BNP is elected to power in the next election, steps will be taken to enhance the quality of sports in the country, with the state assuming full responsibility for athletes representing Bangladesh internationally. Rahman also announced plans to increase the number of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) to cultivate quality players, proposing the establishment of a BKSP in each division of the country, building on the existing four.

Further detailing his vision, Rahman proposed the development of ward-based playgrounds in Dhaka city, allowing children and elders to engage in physical activities and leisure. He also suggested a revamp of the school syllabus to include sports and a second or third language, with these subjects being assessed in exams to encourage student participation.

Addressing the upcoming elections, Rahman urged the government to hold them by December, highlighting the sacrifices made by BNP leaders and activists for the cause. He reiterated the political right of the people to participate in free and fair elections.

The event, organized by Shafraz Ahmed Sharfur of the Arafat Rahman Coco Memorial Trust, was chaired by Abu Naser Sheikh. It saw the presence of several notable BNP figures, including Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Member Secretary Aminul Haque and former Deputy Land Minister Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, among others.

The organizers comprised individuals such as Fazle Rahman (Pinak), Sheikh Sadek, and Dalia Binte Lakuria, who contributed to the successful execution of the event.
