Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today called for forging national unity to end political vengeance and open a new chapter in history, where no one's life or family will be destroyed due to political differences. 'Let us unite to end political vengeance and open a new chapter in history, where no one's life or family will be destroyed because of political differences,' he said in a post on his verified X Handle as well as Facebook accounts. He expressed his pledge to uphold the spirit of democracy that thrives on a diversity of faiths, beliefs, and ideologies, empowering the people of Bangladesh to define their own fate through electoral participation. Tarique Rahman articulated a vision for Bangladesh where the rule of law, human rights, and f reedom of expression are established, safeguarding the rights and liberties of every citizen. He underscored the goal of building an inclusive, tolerant, and rules-based society. His social media posts followed a significant High Court (HC) decision that acquitted all persons, including him, who were previously convicted by a lower court in two cases related to the grenade attack on an Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004. A division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain delivered the verdict, nullifying the lower court's judgment in these cases. The BNP has expressed satisfaction with the High Court's decision, marking a pivotal moment for Tarique Rahman and his call for national unity.
