Cox's bazar: Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam claimed a seven-wicket haul as Barishal registered their second victory in the 27th National Cricket League (NCL), securing a six-wicket victory over Dhaka Division in their fifth round match at Cox's Bazar Cricket Stadium today. Tanvir's exceptional performance dismantled Dhaka's batting lineup, restricting them to just 169 in the second innings on Day 4, after they resumed play at 124-5.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tanvir's remarkable bowling left Dhaka with a modest 102-run target for victory, which Barishal successfully chased down, finishing at 107-4 in 34.3 overs. Opener Iftekhar Hossain Ifti, who scored 78 in the first innings, led Barishal with an unbeaten 57. His opening partner, Adil Bin Siddik, contributed 30 runs to the chase.
The partnership between Ifti and Siddik added 41 runs before Barishal experienced a minor setback, losing four wickets for just 39 runs, with both Fazle Mahmud and Abdulah getting out for ducks. Despite the pressure, Ifti's composure guided Barishal to a well-deserved victory.
Earlier in the match, Dhaka set a first-innings total of 273, largely due to Marshall Ayub's impressive 120-run performance, which also marked his achievement of 10,000 first-class runs, becoming the fourth Bangladeshi batter to do so. Barishal responded with 341 all out, establishing a crucial 68-run lead that ultimately played a significant role in their victory.
