Tanti Dal Leader Stabbed to Death in Khulna

Khulna: A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Khulna city late Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Md. Sonamia, convener of the organization’s Ward No. 10 unit in Khalishpur area. He was the son of Jabbar Sardar of Nayabati village under Khalishpur Police Station.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident took place around 12:05 am in the Nayabati area. Sona Mia, who ran a small variety store, was closing his shop when he was attacked by three youths riding a motorcycle. Locals reported that the attackers struck him with sharp weapons, leaving him injured. Despite initially taking shelter in a nearby house, the assailants pursued him and attacked him again.



He was later rescued and taken to a local clinic before being shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Sub-Inspector Palash Kumar Roy of Khalishpur Police Station stated that police were informed about the incident around 12:30 am. An inquest report was prepared, and the body sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.



Witnesses described two of the attackers as wearing masks, while another wore a helmet. The assailants fled immediately after the attack. Officer-in-Charge Md. Touhiduzzaman of Khalishpur Police Station confirmed the incident, noting that legal procedures were underway and efforts were being made to identify and arrest those involved. Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Sudarshan Kumar Roy mentioned that multiple teams had been deployed to investigate the killing and determine its motive.
