Tangail: A programme distributing free seeds and fertilizers among small and marginal farmers was inaugurated in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail to increase agricultural production. The programme, organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension, was inaugurated this afternoon at the upazila parishad premises by president of upazila Sramik Dal Md. Ariful Islam Naba. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Erfan Uddin chaired the event.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative is part of the efforts to enhance agricultural productivity in the region. The event was graced by key figures including Nagarpur upazila BNP president heroic freedom fighter M A Salam and general secretary Md. Habibur Rahman Hobi, who were present as special guests. Officials from agriculture, fisheries, and livestock departments also contributed to the discussions at the event.
Under the programme for FY 2025-26, a total of 1,050 farmers in the upazila will receive seeds and fertilizers free of cost. Of them, 350 jute farmers will get 1 kg seed and 10 kg fertilizer each, 400 sesame farmers will receive 1 kg seed and 15 kg fertilizer each, and 300 Aus paddy farmers will be given 5 kg seed and 20 kg fertilizer each. The initiative aims to support small-scale farmers in enhancing their crop yields and ensuring food security in the region.
