Tamim Iqbal Calls for Proper Planning Before Next Bangladesh Premier League

Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal has ruled out rushing into the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), stating that the tournament will only be held if it can be organized to the required standard. With uncertainty still surrounding the country's premier franchise competition, the BCB has yet to make an official announcement regarding the next edition. After a board of directors meeting yesterday night, Tamim said the board would emphasize on quality regarding the BPL. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tamim expressed that the BCB will not organize the BPL just for the sake of it, citing time constraints as a significant factor. "We will not hold the BPL just for the sake of holding it. I don't think we have enough time," Tamim said. He stressed that if they decide to proceed with the BPL in the future, it will be organized properly, ensuring it meets the necessary standards. Tamim also discussed his new role in international cricket administration after bein g appointed chairman of the ICC's Franchise Cricket Oversight Committee during the recent ICC Board meetings. He attended the informal meeting on July 9 before participating in the formal sessions on July 11 and 12, where he received a warm welcome from fellow board members. "The ICC meeting went well. I joined the first informal meeting on July 9. I attended the formal meetings for two days on July 11 and 12. They welcomed me. I delivered my speech and spoke whenever it was necessary," he said. Highlighting the significance of his appointment, Tamim described it as a proud moment for both himself and Bangladesh, as the committee will oversee the growth and governance of franchise leagues worldwide. Tamim emphasized the committee's responsibility to ensure proper processes are followed within franchise leagues and to address any concerning issues. "Franchise leagues are being launched in different countries around the world. Our responsibility is to see whether the proper processes are being followed and wh ether things that should not be happening are taking place in those leagues," he stated. In addition to overseeing franchise leagues, Tamim mentioned that the committee has been entrusted with several other responsibilities related to international cricket. "The committee has also been assigned several other responsibilities related to international cricket. We will discuss those issues and take the appropriate steps," he concluded.
