Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Dr. Ali Riaz announced on Tuesday that talks between political parties and the Commission are actively progressing, adhering to the directives given by Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Riaz emphasized that all discussions with political parties have been consistently communicated to the Commission’s Chairman and Chief Adviser, Prof. Muhammad Yunus, who is steering the process with his guidelines. The announcement came before the third round of discussions with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital.

The meeting was attended by Commission Members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain, and the Chief Advisor’s Special Assistant Monir Haider. Dr. Riaz highlighted that several recommendations from the first phase of talks with the BNP align with the views of the National Consensus Commission and relevant bodies, though some issues remain contentious.

BNP representatives have indicated that they will consult with their policymakers regarding the points of disagreement and will provide updates to the Commission. Dr. Riaz remarked on the significance of the ongoing discussions, noting that final decisions on the recommendations will require input from the political parties’ policymakers, underscoring their essential role in reaching a consensus.

The BNP delegation was led by Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed and included BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Ismail Jabiullah, Executive Committee member Advocate Ruhul Quddus Kajal, and former Secretary Abu Mohammad Moniruzzaman.
