Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DMP) Md

Mainul Hassan has asked the fresh police officers to prepare themselves by

attaining proper training as they have to face many challenges ahead to

establish peace and discipline in the society through proper execution of the

laws.

“The main task of police is to maintain law and order and ensure security of

the people… This is a very challenging task. There are many challenges

ahead. You have to maintain law and order after overcoming the challenges.

So, you have to prepare yourselves with attaining appropriate trainings. Be

attentive in training,” he said.

He made the remarks at an inaugural orientation programme of the newly-

appointed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) at the conference room

of the DMP Headquarters here.

Paying due tributes to the policemen died recently, the police commissioner

said, “Many things have started afresh in the changed situation following the

student-people movement. DMP is the largest police unit. It has
35,000

members and they are extending services to the city dwellers.”

He said police are doing three types of work, first to take measures to

prevent crimes in the society, second to conduct proper investigation to find

out the culprits involved in the offences and finally to collect intelligence

to maintain the law and order.

“It is very important to collect intelligence. Go to the people to collect

the intelligence, otherwise, you will not get it. The more you get

intelligence the more you help to check crimes,” he said.

Additional Police Commissioner (admin) Faruk Ahmed, Additional Police

Commissioner (crime and operations) Md Israil Hawlader, Additional Police

Commissioner (detective) Rezaul Karim Mallik and Additional Police

Commissioner (logistics, finance and procurement) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, among

others, were present.
