Dhaka: Bangladesh's FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia finished 50th, securing 5-5 points in the Masters event of the Serbia Open held as part of the 6th International Summer Chess Festival in Belgrade, Serbia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the ninth and final round played on Wednesday last, Tahsin defeated Alexei Borshch of Russia. Earlier, in the eighth round, he conceded defeat to Serbian Grandmaster Mikhail Brijakin.
India's International Master S. Aswath emerged champion with 7.5 points, while Russia's FIDE Master Yurasov Metfe finished runner-up with the same number of points. A total of 239 players, including 14 Grandmasters, four Women Grandmasters, and 29 International Masters from 33 countries, participated in the tournament.
