T20 World Cup: Afghanistan-New Zealand match washed out without a single ball bowled

The Group-1 Super-12 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup between last time runners-up New Zealand and upcoming cricketing nation Afghanistan was washed out without a single ball being bowled due to heavy evening showers at Melbourne Cricket ground, Australia on Wednesday.

 

After the match, both the teams shared one point each and the ongoing World Cup saw the second washed out after the South Africa -Zimbabwe match held in Hobart on Tuesday.

 

Despite sharing the points in day’s ill-fated match, the top slot of New Zealand in Group A was not hampered as they secured three points from two matches after punishing holders Australaia by 89 runs in the first match, featuring a huge net run rate boosting.

But, Afghanistanโ€™s chance of making a semifinal berth suffered a big blow as they remained at bottom in six-team Group 1 with one point from two matches after conceding five wickets defeat against England in the first match..

 

However, Afghanistan will remain at Melbourne to play their next match against high flying Ireland on Friday while New Zealand will fly for Sydney to play Sri Lanka on Saturday.
