Sylhet: Sylhet men's kabaddi team and Habiganj women's kabaddi team made a winning start in the Surma zone National Kabaddi Championship (men's and women's) that has begun at Sylhet divisional sports complex in Sylhet today, marking the Festival of Youth 2025.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the day's first match of the men's division, the Sylhet district team defeated the Feni district team by a margin of 65-22 points. Meanwhile, in the women's division, the Habiganj district team achieved a decisive victory over Sunamganj with an impressive score of 72-3.
The competition of Surma Zone features a total of six teams in the men's division and five teams in the women's division. The event's formal inauguration was conducted by Padmasan Singh, the additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Division, who attended as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation's general secretary SM Newaz Sohag, treasurer Monir Hossain, Sylhet District Sports officer Noor Hossain, and Sylhet District Sports Association ad-hoc committee's member Emran Ahmed Chowdhury were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
The championship, organized by the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation, divides the country into eight zones. Prior to the Surma zone events, the competitions in the Padma, Teesta, Brahmaputra, and Rupsha zones have been completed. The winning teams from each zone will advance to the inter-district championship, where the top four semi-finalists will earn the opportunity to compete in the national championship alongside the services team.
