Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain today highlighted the nation’s pressing challenge of sustaining the sacrifices made by martyrs in various democratic movements, particularly the Mass Uprising in 2024. He emphasized the importance of honoring those who were martyred, tortured, oppressed, or disappeared, and those who lost their lives or were crippled in the recent uprising.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hossain expressed these views in an interview on the eve of Victory Day. He paid tribute to the martyrs of the Great War of Liberation and the July Mass Uprising. He remarked that although victory was achieved in 1971, independence remained unprotected until it was completed through the mass uprising of 2024. He stated that people now feel the taste of real victory as the country is free from what he described as Awami fascists.

Hossain recounted his participation in numerous movements and struggles throughout his life, acknowledging that, despite many victories, sustaining them has been a challenge. He noted the ongoing desire for better outcomes and stated that the opportunity now exists to maintain the victory of the Mass Uprising and to keep the spirit of the Great Liberation War alive.

He further stressed the need to fulfill the expectations of the people that remained unfulfilled after the Liberation War of 1971. He called for collective efforts to maintain the recent victory and honor the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
