Dhaka:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) apprehended Mohammad Asadul Islam, a Surveyor in the Lalbagh Revenue Circle, as he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe. The incident occurred during a sting operation aimed at curbing corruption related to land boundary determinations and land mutations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Aktarul Islam, Deputy Director of the ACC's Public Relations Division, stated that the operation was conducted by a special team from the ACC's Dhaka District office. The surveyor was caught while receiving a bribe of taka one lakh.
The complaint originated from Md. Monirul Islam, who possessed a registered, irrevocable power of attorney for 282 decimals of land in the Char-Kamrangi mouza. Despite submitting a request for land demarcation to the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka, the process remained incomplete for nearly six months. The complainant was instructed to contact Surveyor Asadul Islam, who allegedly demanded a bribe of taka 80 lakh to finalize the demarcation and mutation.
Following a preliminary investigation to validate the complaint, the ACC executed the sting operation. Asadul Islam was arrested during the transaction, and legal proceedings have commenced to file charges against him and present him before the court.
